The International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival

The Gilbert & Sullivan Festival has been an instituion since 1994 – an annual celebration of Gilbert & Sullivan’s works. Initially staged in Buxton Opera House in the Derbyshire Peak District, since the Festival is now based at The Royal Hall, Harrogate in North Yorkshire.

The International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival is one of the UK’s leading arts events: 2,000 performers, 40+ performances, and 25,000 people from all walks of life enjoying operas. It attracts amateur and professional international troupes, and a wide range of specialist UK companies – performing everything from ‘Bus Pass Opera’ by the over 60s, to youth productions.

In the words of Chairman Ian Smith, who founded the festival: “The Festival is all about fantastic entertainment. The glorious music of Sullivan and Gilbert’s wonderful, witty dialogue and outstanding political satire which would not be out of place in today’s party political spats”. We are delighted to be working with Ian and his team to help the festival thrive and reach new audiences.
