South Tees Hospitals Charity serves South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: the the largest hospital trust in the Tees Valley with two acute hospitals and services in community hospitals across the area, including the Friarage and East Cleveland Hospital.

Much beloved by the community, the hospital charity is well supported and able to fund developments major and minor across its sites. As an examples, it has wholly funded the Trinity Holistic Centre and its services. Patients undergoing cancer treatment have access to holistic treatments, and to a purpose-built centre and beautiful garden at the James Cook Hospital.

Like many NHS Trusts, South Tees is keen to understand how best its hospital charity can generate income, and how it can be most effective as grant-giver, enabling research and developments within the NHS Trust itself. Tarnside have been delighted to work alongside its excellent team to help develop its thinking and plans for the future.

Tarnside has worked with many NHS and healthcare clients over recent years, developing a particular understanding of how hospitals and their charities can navigate the path from ‘thanking and banking’ to becoming a ‘fundraising hospital’. This is a delicate process, requiring individuals from all areas of the hospital to commit to a new approach. However, the outcomes are transformational: better care for patients, new facilities, engaged and enthusiastic staff, and more options for the future.
